The Anthony Petrovic Memorial Foundation was established in memory of a 9 year old boy, Anthony, who had a unique love and gift for music and visual arts. The foundation was created primarily to award local students who demonstrate proficiency in visual and performing arts.
The initial event to support this foundation was a Children's Music Recital, which was organized and held on April 13th, 2008. Over 20 local talented students, ages 7 to 18, performed various musical pieces on several different instruments. The event was successful in every way, and through the generosity and great community response, over $4,000 was collected.
The second event to benefit the Anthony Petrovic Memorial Foundation took place on June 12th, where the local yacht club hosted a cocktail party and raised over $6,000 for the fund.
The first scholarship was given to a local high school graduate, which was awarded to him for his achievement in both art and music. In addition, two middle school students were sponsored to take art classes at the Nassau County Museum of Art. The awarded students were chosen based on school teachers' recommendations.
Presently, the foundation is planning a new project that will give an opportunity to local students talented in visual arts to exhibit their work and to individually be recognized by the community, visual and performing art institutions, and local publications.
As the foundation further establishes, more projects and activities will be created in which local students will be exposed, increasing community appreciation of the performing arts. At the same time, the foundation will nominate, sponsor and encourage talented individuals to expand their education by participating in programs at visual and performing art institutions.
